Music Australia - Mapping Music's Contribution To The Economy
A new report released by Music Australia maps the huge contribution that music makes to our economy.
Australian music industry generated revenues of $8.78 billion and contributed $2.82 billion in direct gross value added, or GVA, to the Australian economy in 2023-24.
The Bass Line, undertaken by McAtamney & Advisors, provides the first comprehensive measure of the economic contribution of Australia’s music industry.
It shows strong international demand for Australian music with music exports, including income from overseas streaming, performances, rights and retail, contributing an estimated $975 million to the total Australian music industry revenue.
Following sessions across regional NSW, Victoria and WA, the ALMBC has had a series of very successful gatherings in Far North Qld, including Townsville and Cairns.
Attendees ranged from the local bowls club running live music weekly, to the biggest dedicated live music venues and each region's largest festivals, production companies, promoters, and more.
A key to the success of the recent sessions in FNQ, was the collaboration with APRA AMCOS through the national Live Music Office as well as state-based leadership mechanisms QMusic and the Queensland Music Festival.
The ALMBC remains dedicated to supporting the development of regional and remote touring and will be undertaking further engagement trips across regional and remote Australia in the coming months, including driving from Melbourne to Adelaide at the end of July, to focus on the cementing of relationships between venues, promoters, bookers and state organisations in touring between the two state capitals.

Since its inception in 2016, the purpose of AusMusic T-Shirt Day has been to stand in solidarity with the hardworking, resilient legends who work within the Australian music industry.
It’s about being there for those who are doing it tough - no gimmicks, no ego, no agenda. It’s also a day of celebration, a day to recognise a diverse and hugely talented group who contribute their skills, passion and expertise to play a role in bringing us all together through music.
It’s about recognition. It’s about standing shoulder to shoulder with a community of great people. It’s about being willing to give back, because they have given us so much.
Have Your Say on the NSW Entertainment Industry Act
ALMBC Members are invited to provide feedback to the NSW Entertainment Industry Act, specifically around the definition of performer, the role and appropriate renumeration for managers and bookers.
The ALMBC's position is that:
The current definition of performer is correct
The act should make a distinction between performers, managers and booking agents
Managers should be allowed between 10-20% fee
Booking agents should maintain 10% booking fee
Please submit your responses by Sunday 20 July 2025.
